What’s new in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Wave 2 2024?
Microsoft releases multiple updates to Microsoft Dynamics 365 throughout the year, with two major updates per year, also known as Waves. What can you expect in the upcoming wave? In this blog, our Release Manager, Angelique den Boef, shares some new functionalities and improvements in Wave 2 of 2024 for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management (also known as F&O).
Microsoft Dynamics 365 version 10.0.41
The preview of version 10.0.41 is available now and is available to everyone in LCS since September 17. Before installing a new release, we recommend evaluating the impact on your ERP system to avoid surprises later on.
As you are used to in our Wave blogs, we will only mention a few new functionalities and improvements in this blog. There are simply too many to name them all. If you want to know more, we provide a link to the full overview for each part in this blog.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Platform
- Copilot: The new functionality in Wave 2 of 2024 allows users to ask follow-up questions in the Copilot sidecar, providing them with deeper and more contextual support as they work.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance
- Due to the increasing volume of data, the free text invoice page in Dynamics 365 finance is slow to load. Two major changes have been made to address these issues:
- In the menu item All free text invoices, only invoices with the status Not posted are now displayed.
- A new menu item of an optimized invoice tax page provides a streamlined interface and faster data load capabilities.
- Year-end Close Process Validation Feature: This feature validates the year-end close to detect issues. If issues are found, the feature will suggest a solution. This feature ensures accurate ledger balances in both accounting and reporting currencies and recommends best practices for managing large dimension sets.
- Performance has improved when calculating the aging bucket balances in the customer aging report.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management
- It is possible to link transfer order lines directly to sales order lines, which ensures more efficient inventory management and better traceability. This functionality is useful if sold items are stored in a different warehouse than the one from which they will be shipped.
- Synchronizing external inventory adjustments through the Inventory Visibility service. This allows you to manage omnichannel inventory transactions more efficiently.
- It is possible to trace raw materials and sub-assemblies throughout the value chain. This helps with regulatory compliance and improving efficiency and sustainability.
- A mobile app is available for approval management for purchase orders and requisitions. It allows users to manage approval requests flexibly and efficiently.
- Introduction of outbound shipment policies. This makes the management of shipments more efficient and accurate.

Need help updating your ERP environment?
As already mentioned, we advise everyone to map out the impact of a release before installing it. This prevents problems with, for example, customization and add-ons.
Focus Enterprise Solutions can help you with this through SURA (Service Update Release Assistance) developed. We look at this and draw up a plan of action and see what needs to be done before we install the new release. This way you can install a new release without any worries. Curious how this works exactly? Download the SURA brochure for more information.
